The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella)

Chapter 1741

In reality, most of the council elders had been quietly questioning Jim's decision for quite some time. After all, everyone looks out for their own interests, right?

Jaime took a deep breath. Now that the Earl's estate had approached them with a joint development contract, how could anyone resist such a tempting offer? If he could get involved, it would boost his standing within the family significantly. With this thought, a wave of excitement washed over him, but he kept his cool and simply asked, "I can't quite figure out why your Earl's estate wants to partner with me."

"Because you've got the chops for it," Murray said, raising an eyebrow. "I've had my differences with your family head, but that doesn't mean we can't have a good working relationship, Mr. Davis."

Jaime got the hint loud and clear, but he knew there was no such thing as a free lunch. "What's the catch?"

Partnerships are all about mutual benefit, after all.

Murray chuckled, cutting straight to the chase. "My birthday party is in a couple of days. I'd like you to bring someone along."

"Who?"

"Mirabella."

Jaime was taken aback. "Why do you want her there?"

"It's not like I need her for anything specific," Murray put down his coffee cup, looking intrigued. "I'm just curious about what makes her stand out enough to catch the First Base's attention."

"First Base?" Jaime was momentarily thrown off.

He hadn't really paid much attention to Keir's niece and had no clue why First Base was interested in her.

"Looks like you're in the dark too," Murray said, easily reading Jaime's reaction.

Jaime gathered his thoughts and replied, "To be honest, Miss Mira just got back a couple of days ago and hasn't even officially shown up in the family yet."

"Is that so. But this 'Miss Mira' title?" Murray, not exactly clued-up on high society etiquette, could tell from the title that she had some status. Jaime shrugged it off, "It's just a title, nothing more."

This put Murray at ease. Given her ties with the Weapons Bureau, if she also had

a high standing in the Davis family, he might have to reconsider his partnership with Asa.

"So, are we good to go on this partnership?" Murray brought the focus back to business.

Jaime looked at the contract in his hand.

Jim laid up with serious

injuries and his future uncertain, this was

à golden opportunity. After a bit

of thought, he nodded, "Deal."

"You're a straight shooter, Mr. Davis." Murray paused, making sure everything was clear, "Keir doesn't have any special attachment to this girl, right?"

Jaime smirked, "That's nothing for you to worry about. Even if he did, he wouldn't have the energy to protect her."

Murray sensed there was more beneath the surface, "What do you mean by that?"

Jaime just shook his head and stood up, "I'll bring her to you the day after tomorrow."

After all, Miss Mira wasn't fully recognized yet, and she wasn't Keir's biological daughter. Even if Kei were still around, he wouldn't go to war with Murray over a young girl.

Soon, Jaime and his right-hand man left the private room.

"This Jaime could really be an asset for us," Murray's secretary remarked quietly.

"Absolutely," Murray said, stretching his neck, "Going after those with a hidden

agenda is the easiest way to hook them."noveldrama

"True that," the secretary grinned.
