Chapter 1742
Murray mulled over Jaime's last remark and said, "By the way, check if anything's up with the Davis family."
The secretary nodded, "I'll get right on it."
"Alright." Murray waved him off casually.
Meanwhile, back at the hospital.
In the hospital room, Mirabella was still busy with Jim, giving him a shot. It took about half an hour to finish up.
After checking his pulse and confirming that Chester's condition had stabilized, she finally felt a wave of relief.
She stepped out of the room.
Reid, who'd been waiting outside, rushed over as soon as he saw Mirabella, "Miss Mira."
Mirabella looked a bit worn out, but nothing too serious. She glanced down the hallway, "Everyone's gone?"
"Yeah, they're all out." Reid nodded, then asked, "When do you think Keir will wake up?"
"His injuries are pretty severe. Whether he wakes up or not depends on his willpower," Mirabella replied with a tired smile.
She could mend physical wounds, but those emotional scars buried deep were beyond her help.
Reid clenched his fists, "Keir's gonna make it."
"He will," Mirabella assured.
Reid relaxed his grip, then suddenly kneeled before Mirabella, eyes full of regret, "Miss Mira, I'm really sorry."
Mirabella was caught off guard.
Reid lowered his head, "When the council and Mr. Jaime were here, I shouldn't have put you in the spotlight, making you a target for their ridicule. That was my bad."
Miss Mira had done so much to save Keir, yet Reid's impulsive move to elevate her status in front of Jaime and the others had unwittingly thrown her into the family feud, potentially making her a target for their hidden plots.
Even if he had the chance to do it over, Reid would probably make the same choice. The chaos within the Davis family had already made Miss Mira's position a tough one.
Seeing Reid bow his head, Mirabella understood his intentions. With a soft sigh, she helped him up, her voice steady, "If you call me Miss Mirà, then I have to live up to it."
Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Being Miss Mira wasn't a walk in the park.
Reid's guilt deepened, "I'm really sorry."
Mirabella's gaze was calm, "Even if you hadn't done that today, their mockery would have come eventually. It was just a matter of time."
Reid wanted to say more, but facing Miss Mira's calm gaze, he swallowed his words. He simply said, "I get it."
Even if Miss Mira wasn't holding him accountable, he was ready to face any consequences.
"By the way, why isn't Grady around today?" Mirabella asked.
"Grady's probably been sent off on an errand. He might not be back for a couple of days," Reid repliednoveldrama
thoughtfully. After a pause, he added "Miss Mira, don't worry.4 I'll make sure there are more people watching over you discreetly."
"
Mirabella gave him a knowing look, "That's not really necessary..." This wasn't protection; it was like putting a target on her back. Pressing her fingers to her temple, Mirabella sent Reid off and headed to Cassie's
room.
*Cassie looked up as Mirabella walked in, his eyes tired and red, "Sis, I really messed up."
His sister was relentless; she'd had people keep him up all night playing games.
He hadn't slept a wink, and he was still recovering! Mirabella shot Cassie a stern look, motioning for the others to leave the room. Once they were alone, she pulled out her phone and snapped a picture of his worn-out face.
Cassie was stunned, "Sis, what are you doing!"
"Oh, just sending it to Nellie, so she can see how 'happy' you are," Mirabella said
lightly.
