The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving

Chapter 80

Mason and Tiffany heard Evelyn's tone when she called Lucas.

Tiffany frowned a little, but she did not say anything, while Mason sneered. "She's quite good at putting on an act, isn't she? She's suddenly pretending to be weak to get attention now."

"Maybe she really is sick," Tiffany said indifferently as she put down the cards in her hands.

"Still, she should know where to draw the boundaries. You're still here, after all." Mason shrugged. As he expected, Evelyn just could not stay still.

Lucas looked at his watch. It was just a little over 8:00 pm. "I'll go have a look."

Mason immediately understood. "Sure. If you ignored her and she complained to Maria after she got home, then this would not be easy to deal with anymore."

Tiffany pursed her slips and did not comment.

Lucas' gaze was as cold as ever. "Just carry on playing. I'll be right back."

It was only then Tiffany relaxed a little and said, "Alright."

Mason chuckled. "I get what you mean. You're not going to let her keep you there."

...

Evelyn opened the door when Lucas came to her room. She saw him standing at the door with one hand in his pocket, looking down at her.

After he got a closer look at her from head to toe, he walked in and asked, "Where do you feel unwell?"

Evelyn had no choice but to make way for him. She smelled a whiff of women's perfume on him as he walked past her. He was probably in the same room with Tiffany the entire time.

Evelyn pinched her nose without making it obvious and replied calmly, "My throat hurts."

Lucas glanced at her and realized she truly was lacking in energy. She was not putting on an act.

He narrowed his eyes and turned on the coffee maker to get her a glass of warm water. He was emotionless as he said, "I have three types of medication. One for respiratory infection, one for fever, and some lozenges."

Evelyn frowned as she looked at him. She was a little surprised that Lucas would give a damn about her. "Thank you."

Lucas turned to look at her with his gaze that was cold and unfathomable. "Are you going to continue sleeping later?"

Evelyn climbed back into bed with a hum of confirmation. Her mind was still in a daze, and her head felt heavy. All she wanted to do was to lie down.

The water was not warmed up enough yet. She planned to take the medication later when it was ready.

Just as she was thinking about that, she opened her eyes and looked over, only to find Lucas still standing at the side, looking at her while thinking about something.

Evelyn hesitated before she asked, "Why are you still here?"

Lucas shot her an indifferent glance before he let out a soft sigh. He probably felt insulted. "You're quite good at biting the hand that feeds you."

Although he said that, he did not plan to stay any longer. He placed the medications on the table and left.

Evelyn did not mind. She lay in bed for a while, feeling dazed, before hearing her doorbell ring.

Surprisingly, it was the hotel staff that was delivering her dinner—a bowl of almond oatmeal. It was a light dinner.

"I didn't order anything. Did you have the wrong room?" Evelyn asked.

The hotel staff replied, "It was Mr. Grant who asked us to deliver it to your room."

Evelyn finally understood and brought the food in.

Lucas was a complicated man-indifferent yet thoughtful. Otherwise, Evelyn would not have been lost and struggling in this marriage for so many years.

But she was truly hungry at that moment. She had been lying in bed ever since she came back, so she was starving. She opened the lid and saw that it was a bowl of almond oatmeal. It looked very delicious.

However, Evelyn was allergic to almonds.

She would use a little bit of almond in her cooking to fit Lucas' preference but usually would not touch any dishes that had almonds in them.

She had shared so many meals with Lucas. If he cared, he probably would have noticed that—but of course, he had never cared.

Perhaps he had already noticed it. After all, he was smart and had a great memory. He could remember Tiffany's preferences. He just did not think Evelyn was important enough.

She could not have that bowl of oatmeal. She just closed the lid calmly and ordered another dish for herself.noveldrama
