Chapter 79
Mason noticed it as soon as Evelyn left. "Why did she leave?"
Lucas turned to the side and glanced in the direction of Evelyn's table, and he noticed that the dish was completely untouched.
"Hmph. How ungrateful of her!" Mason shook his head, feeling incredibly bored. "You've given her an out, yet she refused to take it."
Tiffany, however, said nothing. How could she not understand what Evelyn was thinking about? Evelyn simply felt that Lucas was playing favorites because of her fragile self-esteem. She felt it was unfair and was too embarrassed to stay any longer.
Tiffany looked at Lucas, who had already looked away from the table, and it was clear that he did not care.
Tiffany smiled and said, "Can you go shopping with me after lunch?"
"Sure." Lucas did not object.
It was Evelyn's first time in Holmer City, but her mother had gone to college here. So, she decided to visit her mother's alma mater.
The college was open to visit by appointment only, and Evelyn walked around for a while after she entered.
Holmer University was one of the top art colleges in the country. Naomi was studying oil painting back then. She had the best results among her peers when she took the college entrance exam back then, and her work was still hanging in the exhibition room.
Evelyn gazed at Naomi's painting for a long time after she found it.
Naomi had told her that it was actually a two-part painting. One of them was hanging at Holmer University, and the other was lost. It still had not been found.
Deborah told Evelyn that Naomi was still thinking about that painting before she passed away. So, Evelyn thought if she could find that painting, she would be able to let her mother rest in peace.
She stared at Naomi's work, looking at the signature that read "Naomi Reed" below the painting for a long time.
She felt empty, and the feelings of missing her mother washed over her. On top of that, she could feel all the grievances that had pent up all this while. All that made her feel a strong urge to cry.
However, she did not have a mother anymore, yet she had plenty of emotions that she had no one to vent to.
Evelyn brushed the corner of her eyes with her fingertips before she slowly turned around and walked out.
Winter in Holmer City was wet and rainy, and it was getting cloudy at that moment. Evelyn thought it would not rain, so she quickly walked out of the college.
She ordered a ride through an app as she walked. However, it started pouring as soon as she got to the entrance. After she got a few drops of rain on her, she quickly covered herself with her hand and ran to take cover.
Just as she steadied herself, she saw Lucas holding an umbrella and walking over slowly with Tiffany from the entrance. Lucas clearly was leaning the umbrella more toward Tiffany, sheltering her.
They saw her, too. Lucas seemed to frown a little when he met her gaze. Perhaps he felt bumping into her ruined his good mood while he was on a date with Tiffany.
Millie was a Holmer University graduate as well. It made sense that Tiffany would bring Lucas to visit her mother's alma mater.
Just then, Evelyn's ride arrived. She pulled her gaze away calmly, then put her purse on her head to block the rain and got into the car.
After she returned to the hotel, she realized she was coughing a little. At that moment, her body could not stand being in the wind or rain at all. She would easily get sick if she was just a little careless.
She first took her cancer medication before wrapping herself in the covers and went to sleep.
After some time, she felt her body covered in sweat, and she grabbed her phone in a daze. She had no idea what time Sebastian would be coming back, but she wanted him to bring her some medication to stop the cough.
It took a long time before the call she made was answered. Frowning, she asked, "Are you on your way back? Can you bring some medication for me? I'm coughing a little. It might be a respiratory infection. Can you "
"It's me."noveldrama
Evelyn was suddenly wide awake after she heard that cold voice. She looked at her screen and found out she had called the wrong number.
"I'm sorry," she said quickly and wanted to hang up right away.
However, Lucas asked indifferently, "What's your room number?"
Evelyn hesitated before she answered, "1603."
"Got it," Lucas replied emotionlessly before he hung up the call.
Evelyn, on the other hand, was dazed for a long while. Was he really going to bring her the medication?
However, she figured it out after giving it a thought. Lucas was cold to her, but if it was something she requested clearly and not over the line, he would do it most of the time out of common courtesy. It had nothing to do with feelings.
Lucas was in the card room of the presidential suite when he received the call. Tiffany and Mason were there as well.
What do you think?
