Your Love Is But a Dream (Clara and Wren)

Chapter 229

After stepping out of the Zachman residence, Katrina dialed the driver's number and asked him to pick her up. Since the driver had just left, it did not take long for him to return.

Seeing the suitcase in Katrina's hands, the driver hurriedly got out of the car and placed the suitcase into the trunk.

Katrina entered the car and looked out of the window, staring at the brightly lit villa disconnectedly.

"Let's go. Take me out of this hellhole," she said, looking away. Exhausted, she leaned against the seat and closed her eyes.

The driver did not dare to say much. He quickly uttered a brief response and drove off.

As the sound of the engine drew farther away, Martha went downstairs grimly.

Shirley was sitting anxiously on the living room couch when she saw Martha approaching.

Hurriedly getting to her feet, she began, "Mrs. Zachman Senior-"

However, Martha glared at her and slapped her hard on the face.

Shirley's face instantly reddened. She covered her face and stared at Martha, surprised by her sudden attack. "How dare you hit me?" she questioned.

All Shirley got in return was a disdainful laugh and another slap from Martha. She stood frozen to the spot, her ears ringing from the slaps.

Martha's palms were numb from slapping Shirley. She looked at the latter disgustingly, saying, "You disgraceful woman! I'll make you come to your senses

and know your place.

"Just because my son is on your side doesn't mean you can do all sorts of nonsense in this family. Who do you think you are?

"You're just someone we're casually providing for. Do you really think you can get

a place in our family after forcing Katrina away? Dream on!"

Ivy heard the commotion from upstairs and decided it was better not to turn a blind eye to it. She hurried down the stairs and found a swollen-faced Shirley sobbing.

Rushing over, Ivy held Shirley and asked softly, "Mom, are you alright?"

Shirley continued crying and shaking her head, looking as if she had been bullied terribly.

However, the person who was supposed to help her did not show up. It was the first time Carlisle was staying out of it.

The more Shirley thought about it, the more anxious she felt. It was as if things were no longer in her control.noveldrama

Seeing Shirley in such a state, Ivy turned to Martha while suppressing her hatred. "Mrs. Zachman Senior, respect you as an elder. But you can't just hit someone out of

nowhere. What did she do so wrong that you have to do this to her?"

"Is this how you should speak to an elder? You're just like your mother huh? Uncivilized and shameless," scoffed Martha disgustedly, without looking at Ivy.

Those words were enough to humiliate any young adult, let alone Ivy. She bit her lip, her cheeks flushed with shame.

Then again, Martha was Wren's biological grandmother. Instead of talking back, Ivy could only grit her teeth and curse her internally.

"Are you glaring at me? You uncultured thing," Martha remarked, narrowing her eyes at Ivy.

Enraged, Ivy opened her mouth to argue but was secretly stopped by Shirley, casting a look that warned her to not act rashly.
