Chapter 230
No one was standing up for Shirley and Ivy now. If they ticked Martha off, Martha could potentially kick the both of them out regardless of what Carlisle thought. It would be their loss.
Ivy could not endure such humiliation, but she forced herself to put up with it after weighing the consequences.
Martha glanced at the duo and warned icily, "If you dare cause another ruckus in this family, you two can get out of this house. I'm sure you know what I'm like and capable of."
With that, Martha let out a scoff and stormed out of the living room.
Carlisle never showed up the entire time. There was no way he did not hear what happened when even Ivy, who was upstairs, heard the commotion.
Shirley and Ivy wondered if Carlisle did not show up on purpose. Their faces darkened when they thought of the possibility.
"Mom, what happened upstairs? Why did things suddenly turn out this way?
"Carlisle has always stood up for you. Why did he..." Ivy whispered anxiously, afraid someone would hear her.
Ivy thought things would progress positively after agitating Shirley two days ago. Alas, it was not going according to her expectations.
In fact, things had gotten worse. If that continued, it could affect her marriage with Wren.
The thought of that problem made Ivy more anxious. She held Shirley's hand tight as she waited for the latter's answer.
Shirley did not expect things to turn out that way, either. After listening to Ivy the other day, she had been pondering about the matter, realizing how much sense Ivy had made.
Although Carlisle would not marry her, Shirley would never let another woman win his heart and take what was hers. When she found out he had come home that night, she purposely made some hot soup and scalded herself.
To Shirley's dismay, Katrina returned before she could execute her plan. The latter even brought up divorce.
"She's basically forcing Carlisle to get rid of me. I won't let that bitch get what she wants!" Shirley thought.
"That bitch is using divorce to threaten Carlisle to chase us out. I wonder if Clara was the one who gave her this brilliant idea," Shirley said.
Ivy frowned. The mere thought of Clara being the root problem sparked a viciousness within her.
"Katrina never said anything all these years. That niece of hers must've instigated her. That's why she's using this method to threaten Carlisle.
"That must be the case. Even Wren fell for that bitch's tricks," Shirley muttered, convinced that her suspicion was true.
She had been living in the Zachman residence for some time. In the beginning, Katrina made a fuss, only to be reprimanded by Carlisle.
As time passed, Katrina grew silent and pretended as if Shirley did not exist in the house. Katrina would always ignore her, no matter what she did to provoke her.
Hence, Shirley thought it was odd that Katrina had suddenly filed for a divorce. Clara must've instigated to use her methods after
seeing it had worked. noveldrama
"Why didn't that chandelier kill Clara on the spot? If not for her, things wouldn't
have ended up like this," said Shirley with hatred.
She regretted not being cruel enough to get rid of the obstacle. She paid little attention to Clara because of how much Wren cared about Ivy in the past.
Wren was meticulous and always answered Ivy's needs, leading Shirley to believe he favored Ivy, just like Carlisle did.
