Chapter 233
Wren looked at Clara tenderly, concealing the disappointment in his heart. "Dig in. I brought the things you asked for. I'll give them to you after your meal."
As he said that, he continued putting away the items and served the food. When Clara saw her table filled with her favorite dishes, a myriad of emotions washed over her.
Glancing at Wren, she said softly, "Sit down and join me."
Wren took good care of her by preparing a variety of dishes for her, but he never did the same for himself.
In the past, he often skipped meals when he was busy with work. Back then, Clara did not know about it until Wren was hospitalized due to gastric pain.
When she could not get in touch with him, she contacted Liam and found out all about it. The incident made her worry and want to do something for him.
That was why she picked up cooking. Unexpectedly, their relationship had a fallout, and Wren never got to try her cooking.
Even though Wren prepared so much food for Clara, she knew he must have only taken a few bites before rushing over to the hospital. She felt somewhat bad for him.
Clara's offer surprised Wren, and his eyes grew teary. After all, it was the first time she had invited him to join her for a meal.
He wondered if that meant there was a chance to mend their relationship.
Oblivious to his gaze, Clara continued, "I'll be discharged tomorrow. Have you bought your flight tickets?"
The light in Wren's eyes dimmed, and he forced a smile. "Don't worry. I won't lie to you this time.
"I've asked Liam to buy the tickets for me, and I'll be leaving after you're discharged."
Wren's serious expression told Clara he was not joking. Nodding her head, she thought, "He shouldn't stay here anymore. He should've gone back long ago."
The ward fell silent, and the atmosphere was solemn. The two ate in complete silence.
After their meal, Wren put away the dishes and handed Clara the items he brought. "Were you talking about these?" he asked.
Clara took the paper bag and retrieved the items. Sure enough, it contained the pair of gloves from her office drawer, some new yarn, and knitting needles.
"Yes. Thank you, Wren," Clara thanked, smiling at him. She had not forgotten her promise to Billy.
When she had felt better, she asked Wren a favor to retrieve her belongings from the school and buy her some yarn and knitting needles. She wanted to make Billy a scarf.
It was her first time working as a teacher, and there were some areas she could be lacking in. However, she did not want to let him down

capabilities.
Wren knew what Clara was doing because he had learned about the incident from Ethan. Sitting by the bed, he watched Clara tidy the yarns with a focused, yet gentle, gaze.
Just then, Wren remembered the scarf she once knitted for him. Back then, he treated it like a piece of precious treasure and was proud to show it off.
However, since that incident, Wren had to put it away to prevent others from discovering his true feelings. Since then, Clara had never given him another handmade scarf.
That was the point when her disappointment started to
accumulate. Unfortunately, Wren did not realize it. To put it differently, he
was sure she would not leave him because of his indifference.
