Chapter 235
Astonished and troubled, the secretary, Natty Hale, explained, "Mrs. Zachman, Mr. Zachman is really busy. The meeting today is extremely important.
"I think you should wait until Mr. Zachman is done with his business. Perhaps tonight-"
Katrina interrupted impatiently, "That's enough. I don't care if you're telling the truth. I just need you to relay what I said earlier to your chairman.
"30 minutes is all he has. If he doesn't show up, I'll look for him in the office."
After saying that, Katrina hung up without giving Natty a chance to explain. She was sure Natty would not have answered Carlisle's phone without his permission.
It was clear that Carlisle wanted to brush her off. Regardless, time and patience were all she had that day. He couldn't hide from her forever.
...
Meanwhile, there was a depressing atmosphere in the chairman's office of Zachman Group. After placing the phone on the desk, Natty stole a glance at Carlisle's face and forced a smile. "Mr. Zachman, Mrs. Zachman hung up..."noveldrama
Carlisle's expression was grim beyond words. Earlier, Natty had put the phone on loudspeaker, and he heard every word Katrina said.
He had given Katrina a chance to change her mind, but the latter completely ignored it. Clenching his teeth, he glared icily at the secretary and warned, "You know what you should and shouldn't say, don't you?"
Natty looked as if she was on the verge of tears. She did not think that answering a phone call on Carlisle's behalf would lead her to discover such a major matter as Katrina demanding a divorce.
Judging by Carlisle's behavior, he clearly couldn't let Katrina go. Otherwise, he wouldn't be avoiding her like that.
But rumor had it that Carlisle liked...
Natty quickly snapped out of her thought when she met Carlisle's stern gaze.
She promised hurriedly, "Don't worry, Mr. Zachman. My lips are sealed."
Only then did Carlisle loosen up a little. Despite that, he looked as stern as ever as he instructed coldly, "If she comes looking for me in the office, tell her I'm not in. Do you understand?"
"Yes," answered Natty immediately.
Carlisle nodded. "You may leave."
As if granted freedom, Natty scuttled out of the office.
Carlisle was left alone, his expression shrouded in the darkness.
In order to see Rose, Ryan dressed up intentionally, looking more mature than usual. Although he did not want to go on the blind date, there was no denying that if their relationship worked out, her family would be beneficial to him.
Ryan's political career would be a smoother journey if Dennis could put in a good word for him. He would not need to go all the way to a remote village to teach just to earn a good reputation.
The thought of that made him more interested and eager to meet Rose. When it came to fame and fortune, other women were nothing but entertainment.
Those women could not help him and were only meant to be played with. Ryan did not need to be serious about his relationship with them.
In the past, he had treated Clara differently. Now that he knew her true self, there was nothing different about her compared to the others.
Ryan was simply attracted to Clara because of her face. Other than that, he believed she was not as pure as Nina.
When Ryan recalled the way Clara looked at him, a rush of heat washed over him. He licked his lips and composed himself before flooring the gas pedal. The car zoomed off the intersection.
An idea had occurred to him. After meeting Rose, he would return to Longfield in the afternoon to meet Clara.
If his wish could be fulfilled as soon as possible, he could use the opportunity to leave the wretched place sooner.
What do you think?
