Chapter 84
Chapter 84 We'll Send You an Invitation Cedric entered the driver’s seat and instructed Mala to get on.
He could not let her drive them back when he was the one who brought them here in the first place. Besides, she was exhausted from everything that had happened.
Maia knew arguing was pointless, so she just accepted her fate. Cedric fastened her seat belt when she was about to buckle it.
The drive back to the city was quiet, as Maia thought deeply. Cedric’s last words about not wanting her to continue investigating echoed in her head. What exactly did he mean by that?
Maia felt that she was missing something. Looking at the jewelry box on her lap, she could not brush off the uneasiness.
When they got to the Cloud Nine Residence, Maia reminded Cedric before she got out with her jewelry box, “I’ve paid my debt. So, there’s no need for us to be seeing each other again.”
Instead of giving her a clear answer, he said, “You should go.”
Maia turned to leave without a word. As she entered the building, she bumped into a group of ladies going out for a walk. “Good morning, you're early!”
“Good morning,” Maia said politely. They were her neighbors who lived above her floor and were always friendly to her. “Is that your boyfriend? He is handsome!”
“| don’t mean to be rude, but I’m sure he’s rich since he’s driving a Maybach. You better grab onto him. It’s not easy to meet someone handsome and rich like him!
“She's right, you know. You're a pretty girl yourself. You both make a cute couple!” “We'll be waiting to hear news about your wedding soon!”
Maia was not in the mood to deal with this. She smiled and reminded them, “Look at the time. It’s getting late. You should go for your walk before the sun gets too hot!”
“Right, we'll be leaving now. Bye!” Her neighbors left the building in a hurry. When they were passing by Cedric’s car, they waved at him.
“We're rooting for you, boy!”
“You should propose to your pretty girlfriend before she finds someone better!”Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Yeah, we'll be waiting to hear about the wedding!”
Maia was utterly embarrassed. However, she was partially relieved, as she knew Cedric would +15 BONUS
Unfortunately, Cedric was unpredictable. He replied in his attractive volce, “Of course. We'll make sure to invite all of you to the ceremony.”
What ceremony? Maia widened her eyes at the smiling Cedric. She immediately turned around. and stomped into the building. Her face flushed from the commotion.
As she entered her apartment. She shook her head to stop thinking about what had just happened. After she took a shower, she got a call from her aunt.
“Maia, I’ve heard the news. Is Yvette gone?” Tess asked heavily. “I didn’t expect this, but if she caused Rosa’s death, then she got what she deserved. By the way, | heard that Hope got into an accident and that you were attacked at the same hospital?”
“Yes, it all happened yesterday.” “Who tried to attack you?” “It was Theo. | recognized his voice.”
“That son of a bitch! How could he do that to his family? | should’ve known that a gambler wouldn’t care about anything besides money!” Tess exclaimed angrily.
“The police had already arrested him. He will pay for what he’s done.”
“Thank goodness. I’m just thankful that you’re unharmed. | haven’t been able to sleep well since | heard the news. | haven't even told Errol. He would be worried sick if he knew.” Tess sighed.
“Aunt Tess, I’m fine. Please don’t let Errol know. | don’t need another person fussing over me.”
“Right, | won’t. You get some rest. Don’t be too hard on yourself. | couldn’t stop worrying about you.”
“| won't. Please don’t worry, I’m feeling tired. I'll get more sleep now. Bye, Aunt Tess.” Maia reassured Tess and hung up. Her eyelids felt heavier.
As Maia finally relaxed, she felt tired as she had not slept for almost a day. She drifted off to sleep in the comfort of her home.
Cedric, on the other hand, was back at Prismara Hill. Baz, who had been waiting for him, immediately approached Cedric when he saw him at the entrance.
“Do you have any leads?”
Baz nodded as he reported, “Yes, | have Theo Read’s whereabouts from the last few days.” “What about his telephone records?”
“I've double—checked. Nothing suspicious came up.”
Cedric’s frown deepened as he went through the reports Baz showed him and tossed them aside after failing to find anything useful.
“It seems like it was Theo’s rash decision to attack Ms. Maia. We found no evidence that he had received orders to do so. As for the mystery caller, it might have been someone close to Theo. He uses a burner phone because he could not risk being caught?”
This was the only sensible explanation. Cedric thought for a moment. A dangerous gleam flashed across his eyes. “Bring me the surveillance records of the hospital last night and Yvette’s telephone records,” Cedric demanded.
“Of course, but why Yvette’s?” Baz asked in confusion as he added, “Didn't she die from suicide? Why are we still looking into her records?”
“What was her motive?” Cedric asked.
Baz was rendered speechless. He could not think of a motive for Yvette to commit suicide. Maybe it was out of guilt? She was tortured by the fact that she had killed Ms. Maia’s mother?” “She didn’t feel guilty three years ago, so why now?”
